GYM MERITS at Honiton Gymnastics Club

The GymMerit scheme is Honiton Gymnastics Club’s own rewards’ system for gymnasts who demonstrate positive attributes in gymnastics classes.

Gymnasts receive gym merits for endeavours including (but not limited to):

  • Demonstrating good behavior
  • Showing good effort
  • Learning new moves
  • Being well-mannered or helpful
  • Showing exceptional work or improvement
  • Providing assistance/support for Honiton Gymnastics Club

How gymnasts receive gym merits

All gymnasts at Honiton Gymnastics Club – both recreational and competitive – receive a merit sheet when they join the club.  This is kept in their group’s merit folder. Each time their coaches award them a merit, gymnasts are praised by coaches, told why they have received the merit, and a sticky label is added to their merit sheet. Gymnasts are always part of the process of sticking their sticker on the merit sheet. Gym merits sheets follow gymnasts if and when they change groups.

Gym merit rewards

Each time a gymnast hits a gymmerit goal, they receive one of the following rewards:

  • 20 gym merits: pin badge
  • 40 gym merits: keyring
  • 60 gym merits: drink bottle
  • 80 gym merits: training towel
  • 100 gym merits: mug
  • 150 gym merits: socks
  • 200 gym merits: drawstring bag
  • 300 gym merits: jersey t-shirt
  • 500 gym merits: performance t-shirt

How gymnasts receive gym merit rewards

When a gymnast reaches a gym merit goal, their coach marks it off on their sheet and puts in a request. Their reward is then ordered and as soon as it is available:

  • Competitive gymnasts receive their reward at the end of their Saturday training session
  • Recreational gymnasts and Development Squad gymnasts receive their reward at the end of their training session
