Honiton Gymnastics

Honiton Gymnastics Club Welfare

Our aim is for children, young persons and adults to enjoy their sport and have a fun, positive experience in a safe environment when taking part in gymnastics at Honiton Gymnastics Club. Here is some useful information for you should any issues ever arise that you feel concerned about.

The British Gymnastics leaflet, ‘Have Fun, Be Safe’ has been developed for parents and their children providing tips and useful information that will help young people to understand how to stay safe and who can help them if they feel they are not. The leaflet should be included in all BG new membership packs and contains essential information that parents can read with their children if necessary, to make them aware and continue to feel safe whilst in a gymnastics environment. Additional copies are available from your Club Welfare Officer or you can download a copy here.

Safeguarding Responsibilities and Contacts

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility within the club and if you have any concerns, this should be discussed and reported. If you think a child, young person or adult at risk, is in immediate danger of abuse or risk of harm, this must be reported immediately to the police by calling 999. If you have been approached for help, try to reassure them that they have done the right thing by speaking out and telling you.

If the matter does not require immediate attention, you can initially discuss the issue confidentially with one of our Club Welfare Officers for advice and support. They will then be able to provide an appropriate response and organise any necessary liaison with all relevant agencies and persons concerned. All efforts will be made to keep the information confidential. The information will only be shared with those that need to know in the best interests of the child, young person or vulnerable adult. Any member of our organisation working with children, young persons or adults at risk, who meets the eligibility criteria is required to undertake an enhanced criminal record check and complete BG recognised safeguarding training.
