Honiton Gymnasts Strike Gold at Inter-Regional Finals in Southampton

Sixteen gymnasts from Honiton Gymnastics Club proudly represented the South West region at the Inter-Regional Acrobatic Gymnastics Finals in Southampton at the weekend – with two partnerships striking gold.

Jessica Treen and Oscar Felice were crowned champions in the IDP1 Mixed Pairs, while Elijah Hooks and Oscar Felice also claimed gold in the IDP1 Men’s Pairs, bringing home top honours for the club. Jessica and Oscar scored 49.75 over two routines, and Elijah and Enzo scored 46.24 over two routines.

The Honiton team, forming seven different acrobatic partnerships, earned their places at the prestigious event following high-level performances at the South West qualifiers in March.

In addition to the two gold medal performances, Honiton gymnasts also secured silver and bronze medals:

  • Silver – Emma Kiely, Hallie Marshall and Errin Cutler in IDP1 Women’s Trios (49.48 over two routines)
  • Bronze – Benji Treen and James Berry in Grade 4 Men’s Pairs (22.45)

Other Honiton partnerships representing the South West were:

  • Rosie Summers, Daisy Ruben and Tamsyn Terrett in Aspire Women’s Trio (6th place with 24.60)
  • Tilly Murdoch and Holly Wheeler in Aspire Women’s Pair (7th place with 24.05)
  • Chloe Saunders and Emmy Reeks in Grade 1 Women’s Pair (10th place with a score of 24.25)

James Reddy, coach and board member at Honiton Gymnastics Club, said: “It was a tremendous honour for so many of our gymnasts to be selected to represent the South West region at this high-level event, competing against some of the best talent from across the UK. Winning medals, particularly gold, was a fantastic achievement, but we are equally proud of the dedication, teamwork and professionalism shown by every one of our athletes throughout the competition.

“At Honiton Gymnastics Club, we cater for all abilities – from toddlers enjoying their first classes to elite gymnasts competing nationally. We focus on developing a real love of gymnastics, but also support those who want to excel at a high-performance level. Our competitive squads train between six and fifteen hours per week, and that commitment really shines through at events like this.”*

Several other gymnasts and their coaches are now preparing for their next major challenge – the National Development Plan Finals in Stoke-on-Trent in two weeks’ time, where those who won gold in the regional qualifiers from across the country will compete for national titles.
