Honiton’s senior and junior British Champions
Honiton Gymnastics Club returned from the British Championships boasting its first ever senior champions.
Louise Miller, Kaisha Dessalines-Wright and Samantha Britten took the senior women’s trio title and Adam Fullick, Buster Tutcher, Ashley Wallis and Matthew Beviss took the junior men’s 4 title.
The event, which took place over three days at the Liverpool Echo Arena as part of British Gymnastics Championship series, saw four partnerships from the club competing at the prestigious event.
“It was a proud moment for everyone involved in Honiton Gymnastics Club to see Louise, Sammy and Kaisha pick up the title,” said James Reddy, High Performance Coach at Honiton Gymnastics Club. “It’s the culmination of years of training, hard work and commitment, and it’s wonderful to see the girls achieve their dream.”
The girls had to perform three routines over the three days, which saw Louise balancing in a handstand above the heads of the other two girls, being thrown for twisting double somersaults and all three gymnasts performing choreography on the 12m x 12m floor.
In the men’s four competition, Buster held the other three boys on his shoulders, while Matthew performed handstands and other balance elements.
“The Liverpool Echo Arena is an exceptional venue, providing a wonderful opportunity for our gymnasts to show off their skills on the national stage,” added James. “We have more than 400 gymnasts at Honiton gymnastics club now, and the gymnasts who competed at the British Championships give them something to aim for. We hope the four partnerships that attended have provided inspiration for many other young people in Honiton.”
In addition to the two winning partnerships, Jack Britten and Devon Roe-Lavery competed in the 11-16 men’s pair competition and Sharna Curley, Megan Quick and Aimee Deam in the 11-16 women’s trio competition.
